The Judicial Conference defines a "Mega-Case" as any representation in which it is anticipated the the defense of an individual CJA Defendant will cost in excess of $30,000 or involve more than 300 hours of attorney time. In that case, the Court will also require the Defendant, by counsel, to submit a proposed budget for the representation. The Explanatory Memorandum for Case Budgeting in Non-Capital Panel Attorney Representations with the Potential for Extraordinary Cost prepared by the Judicial Conference provides guidance in this area. The array of forms and worksheets provided here will similarly assist in estimating costs and preparing the budget for representation in a Mega-Case.
